Bike and Canoe Naturalist Adventure-Waiting List
SYNC and Wildlands Conservancy invite you to explore all the Lehigh Valley has to offer when you join this guided tour featuring paddling on the Lehigh River and biking on the Delaware & Lehigh (D&L) Trail. Wildlands Conservancy is the premier land trust of the Lehigh River watershed and the original host of the much-lauded Bike & Boat Adventure program that has been running for over 21 years. The Wildlands River Guides will guide you on a 4 hour adventure through our Metro-Wilderness where Bald eagles, Great Blue herons, and turtles are common visitors. We will bike 4.2 miles on the D&L Trail to Canal Park in Allentown. From here, we canoe down the Lehigh River back to Sand Island. Discover the fascinating history of the Lehigh River and D&L Canal in comfort, with all equipment and knowledgeable safety staff provided. Bring dinner/snack for our mid-trip island stop. Several naturalist-led educational presentations are provided.
Plan to arrive at 3:30pm for check in. The event starts promptly at 4pm and ends approximately at 8pm.
PLEASE register as soon as possible so that the Wildlands can plan for the appropriate number of staff to facilitate this event. We will cut off registration on 6/6/2021.
Please bring water (no glass bottles) and dinner/snacks to fuel your body, a face mask for the protection of those who feel vulnerable to virus and if by chance we are not able to remain “socially distanced.” Dress in clothing and shoes in which you are willing to step into the river up to your knees, if necessary. Old tennis shoes are great; bare feet and flip flops are definitely not allowed. You will not always get your feet wet, but it’s good to assume you might.
Remember that there is always a possibility that you will get wet, no matter how experienced you are in a canoe. It may be cool, so dry clothing could become very important. If it’s a cooler day, you may want to bring a change of clothes with you just in case. Be prepared – dress so you will be comfortable. Dress in layers so you can adjust to the weather during the trip.
Leave No Trace: Always practice Leave No Trace ethics on your adventures and follow local regulations. Please explore responsibly! Please call or text Lead Adventurer, Per Hagen, at 215.380.3341 if you need more information.
