The Connected Path – Grounded in Nature Hike: Thomas Darling Nature Preserve
The Connected Path – Grounded in Nature Hike: Thomas Darling Nature Preserve, brought to you by Sync Recovery and NorthBound, because recovery is better together!
Love the idea of a summit but don’t want to miss the wildflowers along the way? 🌼⛰ We are a hiking community dedicated to Hike, Heal, and Connect. We practice ‘radical curiosity,’ stopping every few hundred yards to investigate the world around us—from life inside a rotting log to critters in the brush. 🍄🕸🐛🦋🌳
But don’t let the slow pace fool you; we are a progression-based crew. We move by one simple rule: ‘It takes as long as it takes.’ Together, we gradually build the resilience to tackle the steepest trails in the region, proving that we can do hard things without ever losing our sense of wonder. Halfway through every adventure, we pause for a discussion to ground ourselves and find our collective strength before the final push.
This preserve was named after a naturalist and conservationist from Jim Thorpe, Thomas Darling Jr. Much of his life was spent pioneering the research of plants in our region at the time. The glacial wetlands are a part of this area’s history and shape the ecology within the nature preserve today. These wetlands and bogs are critical for clean drinking water downstream. Furthermore, the old growth red spruce forest is one of Pennsylvania’s largest.
